About athousandcraneforjapan

A friend of mine told me I should post the description of this tumblr here once in a while. Because there is a possibility….That people just followed this tumblr without knowing what it’s about! So here goes…

Inspired by an initiative in my university, National University of Singapore, A Thousand Cranes For Japan aims to gather photos of paper cranes together with the makers’ well-wishes for the Japanese in these difficult times. While the Japanese are unbelievably calm and collected right now, we want to let them know that the people of the world are with them right now. Hopefully, the cranes symbolising our well-wishes will be able to grant some of them strength.

An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane, such as long life or recovery from illness or injury.

If you’re interested in participating in this initiative, simply email athousandcranesforjapan@gmail.com with a photo of your crane, as well as the message you have written in your crane. Alternatively, you may do so on tumblr via the ‘submit’ link.

To learn how to make a crane, you may wish to consult youtube videos, or you may refer to this post.

Mere thoughts without action is of limited help to the earthquake/tsunami victims in Japan. You can do your part by donating money to non-profit organisations which are carrying out relief efforts in Japan right now. Your money will then be channelled into obtaining much needed supplies such as blankets (which are important in the tsunami struck areas which can fall to sub-zero temperature, and even snow), as well as basic necessities such as food and bottled water. A list of avenues where you can donate to this cause can be found here.

EDIT: Do tell your friends about this tumblr as well if you can =)

“The Send Love to Japan fundraising drive, held from 17-18 March 2011, raised an astounding total of S$62,797/- over two days.

The considerable amount was many times more than what we had originally expected to raise.” — Click on link above for the full report.
=) Success!Actually, even I got a little surprised at how much we managed to raise. But I love the people in my school more now ^^
P.S. Those who have read the about page of this tumblr would know that it was “Send Love To Japan” that inspired me to create this tumblr. This explains why I’m posting updates on the fundraiser on this tumblr.
